Seamless word play and multi-layered material

Awaiting Suzanna’s performance I was curious about how the art of poetry and burlesque could intertwine. The bottles of bubbles on the tables for some later ‘audience participation’ also added to the intrigue. It was soon clear however that Suzanna had, alongside her many layers of clothing, a many layered act. What followed was a poetic and tasteful parading and removal of said layers. Beginning in a pre-loved faux leopard fur coat and ending in – well, you’ll have to see the show to find out – she entertained the packed audience in The Pack with sensuous poems about each luscious layer of fabric she revealed. 

Fully embracing her physicality, the visual aspect of the show was also in perfect tandem with her word-perfect poetry, and underlying deeper messages. 

On lighter notes, the audience listened and watched her perform themes such as differing fabrics for day and night, days of the week, and the fascinating concept of a retro futuristic outfit. 

Suzanna kept us engaged throughout, sometimes strutting majestically into the audience at various intervals. The bubbles came into play partway through, although the audience’s attempts at blowing them weren’t as seamless as her perfected ones. 

As an already well-established poet, this visually entertaining act could broaden her audience to those who may not normally attend spoken word events. It was truly unique, and she certainly had more than a few surprises underneath her many sleeves.
