“One life. One opportunity. What will you do?”
On a balmy Friday evening at K-Teas Cakes, Naomi Johnson ramped up the heat, and took us on an epic excursion around the world and back…by bike! And what a whirlwind journey she has been on, both literally and personally. Traversing the highs and lows of a voyage on two wheels, her whistle-stop tour gave us a glimpse into an environment most of us merely dream of. Not always plain sailing and never ordinary, this extraordinary experience was life changing for her in so many ways. Her infectious energy brought to life Gornal pies, wild tigers, burnt socks, jacuzzi washing facilities in a love hotel, and many other comedic moments.
We pedaled alongside her through landslides, over rickety bridges and to altitudes that left us all slightly giddy. We were saddle sore from being kept on the edge of our seats and breathless at the speed she maintained throughout the show. Never dull and never flat, but navigated with humour, humility and compassion.
The trek was interspersed with the somber reality of life that we all face at some point. The realization that we all only have one life, hit home for the audience. Everyone faces an endurance ride in life, and none of us have a satnav to navigate it. Naomi’s ability to bring us all home and question our freedom at the same time, displayed true skill and a deeper understanding of what being human truly means.
As Naomi said, “One life. One opportunity. What will you do?” Well, I would heartily recommend that you watch her show and buy her book for starters. It might just change everything….
